Our History

In 1995, the first class of Leadership Harrison County imagined a trail system to embrace Corydon’s location at the confluence of two branches of Indian Creek. Local groups including Purdue Extension and the Town of Corydon worked with businesses and residents to advance the concept and form the nonprofit Indian Creek Trail, Inc.
In 2001, a $15,000 grant from the Harrison County Community Foundation funded the construction of Logan’s Trail, connecting Mulberry Street to Rice Island. Support from county government, the CVB, and the Doolittle family matched a federal transportation grant in 2004 to build the Doolittle section of the trail, connecting Highway 62 to the new YMCA. Leadership from county government helped assemble funding from Lucas Oil, the community foundation, and INDOT to build the Hayswood section and relocate the Rothrock Mill Bridge, which has become a well-loved icon of the trail and of Harrison County itself.
The county parks and highways departments spearheaded the connection of the Hayswood and Doolittle sections with the rehabilitated Valley View Road truss bridge to create a continuous 3.6-mile trail from Hayswood Nature Reserve to the YMCA. This project was opened in January 2019 with funding from the county, the community foundation, and the town. We make a point of calling each trail construction project a “connection” instead of a “completion” as we have a vision to continue the trail’s ongoing growth in our community.
The Town of Corydon's Stellar Communities project is scheduled to add trail connectivity through downtown in 2022.
