When is the trail open?
The Indian Creek Trail is open year-round, with natural beauty during every season. The trail is open all hours, with the sections in Hayswood Nature Reserve open dusk-to-dawn. Note that the trail is not lighted at night.
Are the trails accessible?
The main Hayswood Section meets ADA design guidelines, while the connected loop is surfaced with gravel and exceeds 5% slope in areas. The Doolittle Section is concrete, but has a few areas of steep slope. Occasionally, the creek floods the trail and leaves debris on the path.
May I bring my dog?
Sure! Dogs are welcome on the trails, but out of respect for other trail users, we ask that you keep dogs leashed even if they are well behaved. Pet waste stations are installed along the length of the trail - we ask that you please pick up after your dog.
What about safety?
Certain hazards like ice, mud, and floodwaters may exist seasonally, and wet leaves, downed limbs, and other debris is present occasionally. The trail is well travelled, but some sections of the trail are remote. The trail is not lighted at night, but there is cell service along each of the trail sections.
Are there restrooms?
Hayswood Nature Preserve has public restrooms located above the trailhead area, and the restrooms at the YMCA trailhead are open during some seasons. A portable restroom is available next to the trail in the Harrison County Community Services parking lot.
Are there benches?
Benches and large stones are installed along the trail to stop and rest. A storm shelter built by eagle scout Matthew Moorman is located between the Valley View and Rothrock's Mill bridges.
How can I get involved?
First, get out and enjoy the experience and tell others about the trail. Second, join the many trail users who help keep the trail clear of natural debris and litter as they travel the trail. Third, share your pictures and comments on our Facebook page. And finally, become a member to support the trail’s future and get involved with our efforts!
